Balance
Department

Although there is an additional charge for
engine balancing, it is an option on any of
our rebuilt engines. The OEM factories just
get the crankshaft close, which always
leaves a little vibration. When we balance
an engine, the pistons are all weight
matched first, followed by the rods. The
crankshaft is put in our computerized Heinz
balancer and bob weights are bolted to it.
(Bob weights represent the weights of rods
and pistons, rings, and bearings, as they
would be in the engine). The crankshaft is
then spun by computer and we either add or
remove weight where it tells us to. On a
counter balance engine, it is necessary to
bolt on the flywheel or flexplate and the
harmonic balancer during this process. After
an engine is balanced, you should not be
able to feel any vibration coming from the
engine once it is properly tuned. Balancing
is always done on racing engines and we
recommend it on any vehicle. |
